Blue

by JT traveller

Blue is the ocean that beckons me in,
cleansing my soul and erasing all sin.
Blue is the sky on a bright sunny day,
calling me outside, begging me to play.

Blue is the Ulysses butterfly's wings.
Blue, the splendid fairy-wren that sings.
Kingfishers and turquoise to lighten the mood.
Blue cheese, my favourite food.

Blue are the loving eyes that make my heart sing,
also the flax lillies that blossom in Spring.
It is blueberries and cornflowers;
peacocks that strut for hours.

Starfish and steele-blue ladybugs,
A woollen scarf that feels like a hug.
Blue whales, the largest animals on earth.
"No blues is good blues", fills me with mirth.

Blue suede shoes; Elvis died too young,
put on that tune, the party's just begun.
Blue is the name for a bloke with red hair.
Blue, bluey, ranga, ginger; "But where?"

"Here in Australia", I say;
I hear your retort, "No way."
Yes, blue is a definitely a term of affection.
A red haired man will bear no objection.

Rhyming Poem contest entry

I have started to write a series of poems on all the colours of the rainbow. I hope you enjoy this one.

As some brief background information, three years ago, just before the pandemic, I was in a very deep, dark hole; one from which I never thought I would make my way out. I wrote a blue poem then too. It's message and feelings portrayed were in complete opposition to this piece of writing. This one is intended to show that blue is not just associated with depression but can also be an uplifting colour. I hope it serves to give hope to others.
Pays one point and 2 member cents.
