Cloak of the Selkie; he stood naked as day

Day she found him standing on the shore
Shore of Lock Craigie his watery home
Home, took his hand and used her coat
Coat to cover his nakedness and cold

Cold he was but not for long; she lit fire
Fire in the hearth warmed his body
Body of a young man willing to show
Show her he loved her spirit and raven hair

Hair that would stream beneath Loch Craigie
Craigie, home to Selkies for ever
Ever magic beings taking human love
Love became their only place

Place of the Selkie, families and Queen
Queen told him to find his love
Love he must know as wife
Wife she would become one day

Day to day she learnt his way
Way of Selkie beneath the sea
Sea was his home, human she
She looked into eyes of need

Need and body lean, she gave love
Love entwined they lay spent
Spent as one; his intent
Intent on loving her Selkie man

Man donned his coat and swam away
Away land to find a wedding coat
Coat gleaming scales, sunlight pales
Pales as he takes her to his home

Home beneath Lock Craigie miles away
Away she swam with her man
Man taught her to breathe underwater
Underwater they married by the Queen

Queen of the Selkies welcomed both
Both love is given freely, bound together
Together in each other's arms
Arms that would hold their children
