Is there an answer?

Darkest is When?

by Tom Horonzy

Inquiring minds want to know,
is it always darkest before the dawn?

Why not soon after the midnight hour
or halfway between sundown and sunup?

What if the moon abides a 'lil longer?
Wouldn't that throw a wrench into things?
Also, consider what phase Luna's in.

Moreover, to be the darkest
an overcast sky would help,
for if  beneath a cloudless sky,
wouldn't stars dim darkness out?

Finally, we need to define
if dawn arrives with the rising sun,
or is it the moment in time when
a first beam lights a lightless heaven,
which may be hours before daybreak.

To end this perplexing proposition,
let's ask, when is the darkness darkest
or the lightness lightest at either pole?

This question came to me as I slept last night. One thing led to another until I arose in the dark without a clear answer, so I put it to anyone reading this submission.
