An affirmation that beauty is in the eye of the beholder

We may see things differently

by Jerome Goldberg

We see things differently

The hungry boy looked at the picture and saw food that he wished he could eat

The homeless boy looked at the picture and saw a warm safe place where he wished he could rest

The physically challenged boy looked at the picture and saw a place that he wished he could navigate

The artistic boy looked at the picture and saw a colorful array of fruits and vegetables

The arrogant boy looked at the picture and saw a crowded market where commoners shopped

The empathetic boy looked at the picture and saw a place of peaceful gathering and warmth

The political boy looked at the picture and saw a place to meet and influence people

The old man looked at the picture and thought about what he had and had not done

The old woman looked at the picture and thought about who she had and had not loved

The philosopher looked at the picture and pondered the meaning

Each looked at the picture and saw it in the context of their life

Art truly is in the eye of the beholder
