Socky

by Bill Schott

It was on a day like this,

with dark gray skies and soupy mist,

when I paired my sock and fist,

creating Socky Sock.

Fingers up and thumb as chin,

I found that I could talk to him,

so I a sibling had, some kin,

whose name was Socky Sock.

Together we could read a book,

pretend to be a nurse or cook,

play a game of "Made you Look!"

with my Socky Sock.

Socky had a brother, Sack,

who rode alone the laundry track,

cycled through then stuffed in back,

he envied Socky Sock.

One day Socky Sock got lost,

somehow in the laundry tossed,

washday wires likely crossed,

leaving Sack the Sock.

Sack fit well, just like a glove,

one might say, a cut above,

but I was always thinking of

my missing Socky Sock.

Time went on with Sack and I,

we researched questions: How? and Why?

Then one day, what should I spy,

but my friend Socky Sock.

Now I've brothers left and right;

they're helping hands who never fight,

together they are quite a sight:

Sack and Socky Sock.
