The Flu Is Blue

by papa55mike

my muscles quake
while the lungs quiver
from the grating cough
racking this old body
I expect my toes
to come up next
somebody shoot me, please

The flu is blue

day after day, weeks go by
blue misery pounds my soul
can't eat, can't sleep
the doctor says
there's nothing she can do
I'm glad I don't say those
bad words anymore

The flu is blue

I've ridden this old horse
called the flu
farther than I wanted to
so kick me to the curb
throw me back to the living
this zombie is digging his way out
but I'm so tired
maybe tomorrow

The flu is so blue

I tried to look at this with a laugh instead of just complaining. There was one crazy thing that happened the Monday after we came down it. I was trying to isolate myself from the girls and watching TCM in the bedroom. One of my favorites came on, Boys Town, with Spencer Tracy and a cast of thousands. I've seen it several times, but when any of the sad scenes came on, I couldn't stop myself from weeping. Huge, crocodile tears poured down my face, and I couldn't stop it. Wanda thought I was losing my mind.
Things you go through!

Many thanks for stopping by to read.
Have a great day, and God bless.
