Not my Favorite Time of Year

by HarryT

Oh, drat-meow, it's that time of year
Our mistress bounds with Christmas cheer
She loves to include me and the dog in her festivities
Including silly pawing printing and picture activities

She chases me about at a frantic pace
I try to hide in my secret cat place
But she uses catnip as irresistible bait
Dog just gives in and accepts his fate

Mistress presses our paws to a black stamp pad
Quickly to each card, stamping paws makes her glad
After she wraps our inky paws in smelly old rags,
So, on the rugs we don't leave our paw print tags

If that's not bad enough, the worse is still to come
She thinks her Christmas photo of us is loads of fun
Dresses the dog in a Santa outfit and me in as his elf
My outfit is itchy, it's made of old moldy green felt

Finally, it's time. She calls hubby for the picture
She spanks my paw as I pull at the scratchy stricture
"Smile," she says. The camera is going to flash
I bet every photo she sends ends up in the trash

No! No! Meow, meow, Christmas is not my favorite time of year
New Year's is much better when I can lick up some good cheer.
