An encounter one warm day

It was a warm day. I was having lunch in the community centre. I had taken off my hat.
Father David, my vicar, came in and bent over my table.
He greeted me.
"You are always so properly dressed in church," he said. "It's nice to see you without a hat."
I was left feeling rather bemused.
