Words of the Jailer

There were no bars on the cell; no cell at all really, at least not a physical one. Yet he was trapped in a place that he no longer wanted to be. That he had agreed to live here made the anguish all the more painful. This wasn't what had been promised, back in the days when the meetings were more like social events; helping each other out, having dinner parties, even going fishing together. Now it was more like torture. He couldn't leave though, because the preacher promised hell for those who fell away. He was imprisoned.
Writing Prompt In 100 words, or less, write a short story--not necessarily a flash-fiction, though it could be--on the theme/subject/topic of 'prisoner'. It could be literal or metaphoric. |
