Unhealing Scars

My secret scars begin to cry
They have a will of their own,
Tears flow wanting to be tended
Only then will they be soothed
 
These wounds were of my own making
Inflicted with a sharpened word-scalpel
I’m shamed realizing the hurt I intended
Guilt is now carved deep into my soul
 
I realize the scars will keep on sobbing
Until I summon the nerve to make amends
