A tree haiku for the club
Sassafras Haiku
by June Sargent
|
The sassafras tree is known for the roots that yields a flavor between vanilla and licorice - used in making drinks long before root beer became popular. The leaves turn yellow, orange, scarlet and purple in the fall. And it bears juicy purple fruit in autumn that birds like to eat - especially wild turkeys.
