A fractured fairy tale of ...

Poor John

by Tom Horonzy

Sitting on a cornflake
waiting for a van to come
was the end of John's belief,
"I am the Walrus."

What led to his thinking
to sit in a British downpour
hoping a tan would come?

Who does that?

Someone off their rocker, I'd say,
for a cornflake has sharp edges
suggesting he was
not all there
or he would've asked for a chair.

Did he become
sick in the head
while ordering crackers be cracked,
when out to lunch, instead of
nuts,
which had been split for him,
causing a
psychotic reaction;

so he left for the zoo
where he heard a loon, coo coo
which sounded so
unsound
John became sick in the head
and that is how he went
stark raving mad, awaiting
a van while sitting on a cornflake
in a British downpour.

Good weather for a walrus,
I guess.

This fun piece began based on the line in stanza 1 but to be along similar lines I could make up, illustrating a demented mind. (The italicized words showed where I was heading.) Couldn't get there, so one thing led to another and next I knew I was writing of one of the boys of Liverpool during their psychedelic stage.
