Emotion of nostalgia, thinking of past people and places.

Memory Lane

by LisaMay

When your tired eyes lose focus, fading now,
and lines of wrinkles are etched on your brow,
you might catch a glimpse of a rosy hue
in the faces of people dear to you.

Nostalgia takes hold and will make you weep
for dear ones who've gone to their final sleep.
With longing you look back, and your fond heart
still misses and wishes you weren't apart.

Though your spirit stays young, with hopes and dreams,
the best is behind you, so it all seems,
in a quieter, kinder, gentler life.
What we have now is more friction and strife.

You may sense sunshine on places you knew,
but those vistas grow misty, grey and blue.
Still, mem'ries will warm you along the way;
nostalgia keeps company ev'ry day.

But you can't go back, no, you can't go back –
the road to the past is a narrow track.
It's unkempt and muddy, through brambles wild,
for times have moved on since you were a child.
