I must ...
Because I love writing
by Wendy G
Why does one breathe?
Or think, feel, know?
One simply does.
And one must.
So it is with writing.
I write from my heart,
so that I will remember,
think and reflect,
consider what's important
about life and living,
about death and dying,
about emotional highs and lows,
about nature, about our world,
relationships, people,
about the meaning of these,
and about God.
.....
Writing helps me
to be curious, watchful, alert,
seeing everything, everyone,
through the lens of creativity,
searching for original thoughts
to express in a fresh way
our common human experience
in even quite mundane things.
.....
Writing helps me to notice
and appreciate the value
in life's special moments,
large and small,
to look for the humour
in frustrations and difficulties.
It helps me to persevere
through pain or distress.
It gives perspective, adds insight.
.....
I write to communicate.
My written words
will be my legacy.
I hope family will realise
how deeply precious
they are to me.
My writing will add
depth and insight
to their understanding.
I hope they will share my stories,
pass them through the generations.
.....
I write to share with friends,
hoping that my words may be
helpful, or humorous,
inspiring, thoughtful,
or challenging.
I am a frail human being,
but my desire is to be
caring and compassionate.
If even one other is encouraged
to follow that path,
then that too is a legacy.
.....
I write to learn,
to develop, to grow
until the last page
of my book of life.
Expressing life in words
is challenging and humbling.
Writing makes one very vulnerable.
.....
I write also to honour
my heavenly Father.
I am willing to share
that my experience of Him
as a perfect and loving Father
has been profound.
God knows the power of words.
It was through His Word
that all things came into being.
Isn't Jesus the Word of Life?
.....
The written word has power
to transform lives.
Yes, to bring peace, comfort,
love, forgiveness, joy, life ...
both to the writer, and to the reader.
Indeed, the living pen is mightier
than the deathly sword.
....
Therefore I write ...
because I must, and ...
because I love writing.
