Missing Her in Autumn

Sitting this evening on our favorite bench
Wafts of evergreen aroma soaking the air
Moon-glimmers on our much-loved lake

Closed my eyes, wishing the feel of you
Suddenly, your specter arises beside me
Silver moonlight highlights your raven hair

Bonfires of old kindle in my soul
Then tumble to smoldering ash
Sadden, opened my wishful mind's eye

Found myself only wishing
Covered by Autumn's dried
Crackling dead leaves
