What the Farmer Knows

Meaning of Life Contest Winner 

Old farmer treads his fields in Fall
with cane-helped steps and labored breath.
The wind's now ceased, the sun's near down.
He's paused to peer at corn grown tall.

"Oh, Lord," he sighs, "I did it right!
I plowed your earth and sowed the seeds.
Look at that crop so beautiful.
Those sky-touched stalks sure are a sight!

"Oh, Lord, I'm blessed. Life's meaning clear.
Your faithful servant I must be.
I'll care for world Thou gave to us,
for it's Thy plan and Heaven's near."
