A tribute to lighthouses, throughout the ages.

Seafarer's Stars

by Peter Mac

The lighthouse towers above the rocks,
Shines out brightly, the mist it mocks,
With flashing eye, long distance gleam,
For miles and miles it can be seen.

Out in the bay, the lighthouse boat,
Anchored down, destined to float,
Above the reef, to warn by light,
Ships that pass, in the night.

The lonely lighthouse, way out at sea,
A solitary beauty, I decree,
A beacon in the ocean's waves,
And many a seaman's life it saves.

The lighthouse stands at pier's end,
With a moment's notice it can send,
A noise that splits the fog apart,
To frightened sailors, to cheer their heart.

The abandoned lighthouse, I do declare,
Needs a splash of paint, here and there,
To once again renew its pride,
And save the ships upon the tide.

All these things a lighthouse gifts,
With the 'keeper, on late night shifts.
To every lighthouse, wherever you are,
From seafarers all, you're a shining star.
