I Always Thought I'd See You

The road of life has taken us afar.
beneath the skies of sunshine and of rain.
In cloudy days and nights without a star,
I always thought that I'd see you again.

The joy of friendship can't be bought or sold.
It can't be taken lightly or in vain.
A friend will keep you safe when life turns cold
I always thought that I'd see you again.

We came together in this earthly dance.
A fate we all remember from back when.
We each are diff'rent -- yet by awesome chance.
We all are here together once again.

Folks come and go throughout our earthly days.
But in our lonely times we need a friend.
To challenge and resolve our worldly ways.
And share these times together once again

Where everybody knows each other's name --
and everyone is welcomed like a friend.
Tomorrow we will go our separate ways.
But always know - I'll see you once again.

We went to a James Taylor concert this summer and when I heard him sing the song, I've Seen Fire and I've Seen Rain, I had so many emotions. It's a familiar song to me but hearing it this time took me in many different directions. From my estranged son of 27 years to old friends who have moved away, to classmates that I haven't seen since graduation day. The following is the chorus of the song.

I've seen fire and I've seen rain.
I've seen sunny days I thought would never end.
I've seen lonely days when I could not find a friend
But I always thought I'd see you again.
