As the Sun Dies

The Last of the Sun

by Cass Carlton

The sun in glory died alone
With last fanfare from fallen throne
His blazoned colours from ramparts high
Have stained the earth where now they lie
His arms upon the sea are cast
Vale for glories that have passed
Lay laurel leaves upon his brow
And let the wind her dirge sing, now.
* * * * *
Then the stars will light and beckon me
To find my fate, my destiny.

Sunset Poem writing prompt entry
Writing Prompt
Write a poem about a sunset or the memories or thoughts that a sunset brings. The word sun or sunset must be in the poem. All forms of poetry welcomed.

These words were penned more than sixty five years ago when I was just a girl. It had been a wet, cold day, but the clouds gave a spectacular sunset. My mood had been introspective all day and it led me to write a poem about the sun, dying at the end of day.
I imagined myself to be a servant allowed to live in order to prepare the vanquished for their Last Rites.
Pays one point and 2 member cents.
