Who Am I and Why?

by Tom Horonzy

To men, I am nothing.
A slab of flesh to be met
and defeated in competition.

For women, I may be something,
if sufficiently interesting,
to be roped, corralled, and wedded.

Yet, to God, I am everything.
An untapped vein
of immortal genetics.

"Be ye therefore perfect."
A commandment to me.

A very tall step it be.
Unseen in humanity,
previously, save for One,
who fed the poor and indigent
with a few loaves of bread
and a half dozen fish.

He helped blind men see,
the maimed to walk.
He even raised the dead.
And in me exists His DNA
waiting to be uncovered.

A diamond in the rough
needing to be polished
to diffuse His light
among the tribes of men,
to learn to love each other.
This is the Who and Why I Am.
