Suri's Last Day

by BermyBye50

To live this last life with a wild abandon,

As previously eight were lost at random.

I'd throw all caution to the wind-- begin

Whatever mischief I'd get myself in.

Time after time I'd run about quite brisk,

Doing things that would put my life at risk.

Like drinking toilet water less due care

The danger whereof I was unaware.

While I had nine lives, I wasn't too wise

T’was curiosity, that caused my demise.

For I’d wait till he opened the back door;

Eager to run free, ready to explore.

I ran out oblivious, with such glee,

Knowing not it was my last day I'd see.

Suri my cat is still alive and well. This is a sonnet about the saying "curiosity killed the cat." A cautionary tale about how curiosity can be the bane of a cat's nine lives and the sad consequences thereof.
