I Am Wishing

by RodG

I yearn to be near Bierstadt's lake
when God awakes His world at dawn.
The glass-smooth water hardly stirs
while sheer cliffs seem to stretch and yawn.

A golden silence spreads throughout
the tight enclosed, wide-bottomed vale--
that unique quiet only found
in wilds far off the beaten trail.

A hush is felt that soothes the soul;
since wind's unknown, a breeze is rare.
The birds at break of day are mute;
no trilling songs to whisk the air.

What I need most these troubled days
is peace of mind, serenity.
Yes, Bierstadt's world unpeopled, calm
keeps beckoning . . . keeps calling me.
