Musophobia

by Regina Elliott

Musophobia is the fear of rats,
the rodents, the macabre rodents,
cold, calculating eyes,
rats everywhere,
in my dreams crawling
across my body in bed,
night stalkers, squeaking
echoes in my psyche,
large with yellow teeth,
scheming with the devil,
plague on humankind,
disease carrying dirty rats,
Oh!....I hear them scurrying
down the hallway, oh God!!!
slam shut the door!!!!
