There I was minding my own business and paying my own college dues. I was not bitter at the thought that once I got my master's degree as a marriage family therapist, I was blocked by the powers above and not given the opportunity to excel in the profession. I was disappointed that those who were in the field of helping others could be so scandalous. I was told once I got a college degree, I could make a difference in society and help other people. It was the dream, to help others move forward and carry the torch to the next generation.

I was the first person in my family to graduate from Higher Education. It was not easy for me both my parents were illiterate and I worked hard to get my master's degree. I did not complete my education until way after I had retired from the Department of Justice Bureau of Prison.

Needless to say, my dream of getting a college degree had become a reality, but a negative reality. The pot of gold at the end of the college rainbow was not there when I arrived. What I found was a bunch of political minded control freaks who did not want to see people "like me" prosper.

I am a simple-minded person, and not one to play politics or lick boots, I decided to enjoy my retirement and stay away from the drama in the Mental Health industry. My only concern was, what do I do with all skills? What about my hope of helping others? It would have been selfish of me to bury my gifts with me when I die. Money is not everything. I work pro bono with at risk kids. I would rather give away my skills than bury them.

Everything I have I have earned with my blood, sweat and tears. It was surprising to me when President Biden announced a three-part plan to help working and middle-class federal student loan borrower transition back to regular payment as the pandemic related support expired. I personally thought that was a good gesture, but you can imagine the shock on my face when this gesture became controversial?

What is so wrong with the government giving families a forgiveness loan of up to $20,000? I have no problem paying back my student loans. If the government offers to forgive a portion of my student loans, I am not one to say, No. "Thank you for giving, I am the life that was changed."
