When I was a young man

I tried my hand acting

In several plays

In high school.

 

I quickly learned

That acting was not for me

For, no matter how hard I tried,

I never could be anything

Other than who I am.

 

And who is that

You ask?

 

I am a straight white American man

With 18 nationalities

Swirling in my bloodlines.

 

I am a product

Of the Berkeley, California

School system

Which tried to mold me

Into a responsible young man.

 

I grew up in Berkeley

In the fabled 60s, and 70’s

And it has shaped my

Views on life.

 

I am a lifelong Democrat

I am a centrist, a moderate

I dislike political extremes.

 

I am spiritual, but not religious.

I am a Buddhist atheist agnostic

I am not a Christian.

 

I am not a believer

I am a pagan, heathen

Searcher for the ultimate truth.

 

I am a walker,

I am a jogger.

I used to be a hasher.

 

I am a drinker.

I used to be a smoker.

Used to be a midnight toker.

 

I am a retired diplomat.

I am an ex-pat American,

Living in Asia.

 

I am a blogger.

I am a card player.

I am a dreamer.

 

And I am

not the only one.

 

I am a big K drama fiend

I am a movie fanatic.

I am a gambler.

 

I am a piano player.

I am a SF fan.

I am a fan story writer

 

I am a blogger

I am a poet.

I am a writer.

 

I am a husband.

I am a lover.

I am my wife’s man.

That I am.
