Evening Fog

by K. Lang-Slattery

Gray mist,
Hanging, covering, rolling
Along the ground,
Enveloping houses, flowers,
Dulling colors,
Muting hues to grayness,
Sadness. Crying fog
Drops tears upon the grass
Leaving it dew wet,
Moist with sorrow.
Birds moan
Winging overhead,
Settling fearfully
On icy branches.
Under the blanket of mists,
Through the foggy grayness,
The sun’s glow sinks
Melting into the sea,
Dimming, diffusing, losing
Itself. Covered by mists
The yellow fades
Fades into the horizon
To die.
