A cry out to the reader

I Need the Reader

by Theodore McDowell

I need you.
The abused child
curled inside me cries
out I am unlovable.
Stoop and listen,
touch a tear,
that’s all I need.

I need you.
Let me feel
under your skin,
the doubts and fears,
and I will comfort you:
you are valuable,
an image bearer of God,
cracked and broken
like me.

I need you.
I feel alone,
living in questions.
I search your eyes
for answers.
Lead me to a song,
a duet of intimacy.
Take my hand,
waltz with me
to a song echoing
from eternity.

I need you.
Let’s meet within
this poem,
link the stars
into constellations,
swim in the gentle
below the words.
