Our love died when the earth renewed

Spring Parting

We parted on a springtime day
when all the lilacs were in bloom.
Now their sweet scents serve to remind
when oft they waft into my room.

A love that ended far too soon,
with bitter words that cut so deep.
Alone in bed, I lie at night,
they crowd my mind so I can't sleep.

So much in common, we once had,
I thought we made the perfect pair.
Until you met somebody new,
all of a sudden, you weren't there.

How could our love, so strong and true,
just die and wither, like a flower?
Unwatered in a garden plot,
untended with each passing hour.

Half of my bed is empty now,
the scent of you still lingers on.
And memories are thick like glue,
cannot forget, though you are gone.

Now shattered is my lonely heart,
the boxed-up pieces hid away.
The jagged edges make me bleed,
as I go through each passing day.

So bitter, was this taste of love,
I hope she leaves you, is that wrong?
That your heart will be shattered too,
you'll join the brokenhearted throng.

You met her on a springtime day
when all the lilacs were in bloom.
Now their sweet scents serve to remind
when oft they waft into my room.
