For Miss Crabtree

Sara Sweet Sings

by Boogienights

Children's Rhyming Poem Contest Winner
Sara Sweet loves to rhyme,
she does it all day long.
She likes to make up silly words
and put them in a song.

Words like dunkypickle
and rockybubblefeet.
Sara makes up music,
singing loudly down the street.

Their neighbor, Miss May Crabtree,
she wasn't very nice.
Not fond of Sara's singing,
and she told her more than twice.

But Sara just can't help it,
she has music in her heart.
She loves it more than anything
had done so from the start.

One day Sara asked her mom
about Miss May Crabtree.
"Why doesn't she like music?"
"Why doesn't she like me?"

"I think that she is lonely",
is what her mother said.
"Maybe we can cheer her up,
we'll bring her fresh-baked bread."

Sara smiled brightly,
"I'll make up a special song,
I'll sing it for Miss Crabtree,
I hope she will sing along."

Sara sat right down, thought up
a very special tune.
With lots and lots of silly words
about an elephant on the moon!

Still, Sara thought, that's not enough,
so she got her favorite pin.
She took a sparkly box she had
and put the heart pin in.

Then off she went with her mom,
with bread and box in hand.
Sara would sing her special song,
a part of the "cheer up" plan.

When neighbor May, opened her door,
she looked grumpy but surprised.
Sara gave her the sparkly box,
tears sprang up in her eyes.

Her mom gave Miss May Crabtree,
the lovely fresh-baked bread.
Then Sara said, "I have a song
I made up in my head."

"It's just for you, Miss Crabtree."
Then she sang with all her might.
Then Miss May Crabtree sang along,
it was a happy sight.

They ate the fresh-baked bread with jam
and drank some sweet iced tea.
Then Miss May Crabtree, hugged Sara Sweet,
she was happy as she could be.

Now Miss May Crabtree smiles,
when she hears Sara Sweet's song.
It brings joy to her every day
and often she sings along.

With her mom, Sara loves to visit,
to keep her company.
Mom bakes fresh bread and Sara sings
for their friend, Miss May Crabtree.
