Fine Wine

by Carolyn Dooley

Purple and green grapes fill vineyards.

They ripen from sunrays. Delicious fruits.

Hand-picked, sorted, seeded, and cleaned

for churns. Yeast and white sugar marinate

the grapes. Mashing grapes makes fine wine.

Deep, sweet, aged red or white wine bottled.

Stored in a dark cellar. For birthdays, weddings,

anniversaries to be chilled at events in buckets

of ice. Couples make wishes for their future

by toasting their wine glasses together.
