If I Had a boy Like Me

by Tom Horonzy

If I had a boy like me
I would listen to what he wanted to be
beginning as early as the age of three
for dreams are important.

If I had a boy like me
I'd teach him about the cost of war
and that peace keeps families secure
as independence is a key to happiness.

If I had a boy like me
love of God and country would be my lead
instilling in him how to keep our country free
so evil would not gain a chance to reign.

If I had a boy like me
the importance of working hard
would be taught with deep regard
for success won't come on a credit card.

If I had a boy like me
I'd be his exemplar of respect
in showing love for another
and making an enemy a friend.

If I had a boy like me
I would smother his mother with kisses
teaching a wife is more than a mistress
because she would die for both he and I.

If I had a boy like me
I'd aspire he be better than I
by saying "sorry" and extending a hand,
for forgiving is forgetting without regret.

If I had a boy like me, to be truthful,
I would walk with him when needed,
listening to his hopes and fears as a friend
suggesting he pray daily the desires of his heart
because after all he does, God will do the rest.
