What happened to...

Our changed country

by Boogienights

Patriotic brave people, where have they gone?
Those who held our country in the highest esteem.
It seems all we do now is talk of what's bad,
not chasing or wanting the American dream.

There once was a time when we were proud to say,
"we're American citizens", we held our heads high.
We've fallen so far now and cower in shame,
"we're all racists and xenophobes!" is the rallying cry.

I remember a time because I am much older,
when people were kind, with respect for each other.
Now we're all divided by anger and hate,
we're enemies now, not sisters and brothers.

Where are we heading? What is in store?
When future generations are being corrupted.
Brainwashed by gender and Critical Race Theories
in schools, while learning is now interrupted.

The past wasn't perfect, we all know it's true
and perhaps I had rose-colored glasses in place.
But the world seemed a much better place in the past,
so much that was good, we have strived to erase.

Nothing is permanent, everything changes,
"This too shall pass" is what my mom would say.
But what are the costs these troubled times render,
and what is the ultimate price that we'll pay?
