Moon and Star

by Bill Schott

I wonder how our lives might be

if we were only you and me;

not us, or them, or A and B,

just each alone and free.

You would surely be alright,

your heart and mind are big and bright;

not me, however, I'd be night:

dark and cold and closed to light.

Together we are on a par,

balanced just the way we are;

we tote the bale and lift the bar,

merry moon and super star.
