Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level
Free verse.

My memory

The recollections are there
in the deepest caverns of my mind
safely locked up

I fooled myself they were mine to dig out
at my own sweet will
but they elude me when I want them
refusing to emerge
however much I try

how fickle and false is Memory
unwanted uninvited
taunting with gleeful obstinacy
she parades to a painful beat
the images i just want
to forget.

I struggle within its clutches..

I wrote this because yesterday I, for no reason, remembered something that I would rather forget. Ironical that with ageing we struggle to remember.
