Ship of Dreams

by Boogienights

Abecdarian Poem Contest Winner
Amidst all the fanfare, it reigned supreme,
Beautiful she was this new ship of dreams.
Citizens came, some with all that they had,
Daring to begin a new life, they felt glad.
Excited they were, with their families they'd start
Following the dream, they held in their heart.
Gleaming in the sun, that fine April day,
Hauling crew, cargo, passengers, she was soon underway.
In size and appointments, the ship had no match,
Journeying on to her final dispatch.
Knowledge was lacking, of what soon would be,
Lethal, an iceberg that they couldn't see...
Made itself known, quite too late to stop,
Now the great ship, in two hours, would drop.
Over the side in the lifeboats, too few,
People were praying for others they knew.
Quiet it became when the ship was no more,
Resting in its grandeur on the cold ocean floor.
Souls, fifteen hundred plus lost on that night,
Traumatized, those who had witnessed the sight.
Under the ocean it sits, absent of light.
Victims of arrogance, decisions made late?
With the title unsinkable, perhaps tempting fate?
X-factor maybe? that's up for debate.
Years later we still ponder, that's just how it seems,
Zenith, the era that built this ship of dreams.
