Ode To The City Where I Live

by LisaMay

Let me now share my love of place,
where peacefully I can live at slower pace.
Wildlife, too, appreciate their space —
here we can view their beauty and their grace.

Set in jewelled Pacific’s deep south climes,
where I’ve enjoyed the best of times,
oh, city of my residence, I embraced your charms
when you reached out your harbour arms.
You offered a nourishing place to stay,
where I could safely live and work and play.

An immigrant, here I have found friends
and calm harmony that transcends
the anxious rub of life, so stressed.
In this city I feel grateful, blessed,
surrounded by the hum of local living
where shared concerns are eased by giving.

Come visit me if time and bucks allow —
I’ll take you around and show you how
although the air is fresh and days are often cold,
a warming welcome’s offered like days of old.
There’s so much to tell, I do not tease —
qualities such as these will please.

Our bold surrounding hills reach high;
Southern lights colour the night-time sky;
Albatross breed here and then fly,
but I'll happily live here ’til I die.
