This work has reached the exceptional level
One of the smells that take me back

The Blueberry Fields

by Donna G. (aka Sam Duck)

If you've ever worked in the blueberry fields,
On your knees with a special small rake,
With your back cramping up and sweat everywhere,
And your muscles all starting to ache:

Then you'll know the aroma of hard summer work
All encompassing, not just one thing,
The berries and flora and sweat and ice bottles
Birds and bees as they soared on the wing.

The teenagers' cigarettes added the smoke,
The crew truck augmented with fumes
The dew in the morning and yesterday's rain
Gave their freshness into the perfume.

Not too far from the tree line, a row is assigned
Then the pine and the spruce and the fir
Add their fragrant sharpness with the musty moss
To the nose of the smell connoisseur.

This potent concoction, the smell of my youth
Comes into my mind now and then,
As much as I hated to work in those fields
Those smells make me younger again.

Write a poem describing your favorite scents of summer

This is 100% true to life. I hated the job, but there is nothing that more encapsulates my teenage years, or makes me more nostalgic.
