My grandmother's soup was delicious.

Sweeter Than Fine Wine

by Carolyn Dooley

Every summer, Grandma canned in her tiny kitchen
She had one way to get everyone's attention
The perfume of fresh-picked tomatoes off the vine
Woke up salivary glands, watering and waiting to dine
The sweet juices underneath the skin taste divine
None have been perfected compared to wine
If tested, her soup would be at the top of the list
You'll be addicted, because taste buds can't resist
Once you test a spoonful of heaven's joy
You will be begging grandma for more, OH, boy
Queens and kings would not settle for a smidgen
Roll out the red-carpet tomato soup is on exhibition
Thanks to my precious grandma's family tradition
