My Closet

by Bill Schott

My closet is a place where I can find
those many items others may not have;
like rhesus monkey skulls so well designed,
and moss and mushrooms pressed into a salve.

Clothes hangers are made out of collar bones,
fox femurs hold my ties along the wall;
sock puppets I call Johnson and Joe Jones,
are quick to serve me at my beck and call.

But when I want to travel to the moon,
or to be lowered to the ocean's floor;
I need to close my eyes and sing a tune,
while standing just behind the closet door.

I should invite my friends to join me there,

but Johnson and Joe Jones breathe all the air.

Subverted Sonnet writing prompt entry
Writing Prompt
Write a sonnet on a subject you'd never expect to find in a sonnet. Can be funny, scary, silly or just totally, balls-to-the-wall, loopier than a slinky on a rollercoaster insane.

Must be a properly formatted 'classic' or heroic sonnet - I want iambic pentameter, an abab rhyme structure in the quatrains and a rhyming couplet, and either three or four quatrains. Kudos if you also incorporate a turn.

MUST not have a predictable subject (eg romance or nature) unless there's an unexpected twist!

No other theme restrictions. Bad language, sex and violence are all fine.
