Sometimes life gives us choices as long "The Avenue of Regrets"
And, how we react to these choices?
Makes us what we are today.
...
A Talk By Elder Eduardo Gavarret of the Seventy and the Latter-Day Saint Church of Jesus Christ.
...
On Friday, October 28th, 1588 Having lost its rudder to being governed solely by oar, the ship.
(La Girona)
Belonging to the great Spanish Armada, collided with the rocks of Lacada Point in Northern Ireland.
...
The ship capsized.
Wanted to cast Away struggling to survive wore a gold ring given to him a few months earlier by his wife.
I'm with this inscription,
"I have nothing more to give you"
"Lord I gave you everything; I have nothing more to give you"
A phrase and a ring with the design of a hand holding a heart.
An expression of love from a wife to her husband.
...
When I read this story, it made a deep impression on me, and I thought of the request made by the Savior: "And, ye shall offer for a sacrifice unto me a broken heart and a contrite spirit"
...
But those thoughts in mind let me know share you a personal experience that I had when I was only 12 years old.
The effect which still lasts...
"To this Very Day"
...
Oh that's fine my mother and sister attended each and every Sabbath Sunday at our local church.
The Latter-Day Saint Church of Jesus Christ.
While my father would stay at home never attending the meetings to let alone taking into sacrament.
...
"Eduardo hurry up we are late for the church meetings"
Stated my mother.
"Mom I'm just going to stay with dad today."
"But Eduardo are you sure?"
You do know that you need to attend your Priesthood quorum meeting"
"Yes Mom but poor Dad, he's going to be left alone and I will stay with him again today.
He replied.
...
So, I would with my father, who would spend this time on his hobby.
Yes, repairing radios and clocks down below in his shop.
...
So, as my mother and sister went to the Sunday meetings.
Me and Dad would spend a few minutes together.
...
"Eduardo don't you need to go church today?"
"Today is Sunday."
"Yes Dad but today."
"I told Mom I wouldn't go."
I replied.
...
And then Dad went about his business as usual, which was his way of giving me permission to leave.
Leave and play with my friends.
...
Now that morning was a very important soccer game.
Yes, and my friends had told me that I couldn't miss it because we had to win that game!
Yes but there was a problem.
In order to get to the soccer field I would first have to pass the chapel!
...
Determined, I made a dash towards the soccer field.
Yes, but stop before that?
Was "The Great Stumbling Block"
The chapel!
That's what I noticed some very large trees.
So, as quick as a bunny.
I could ran into the opposite side of the sidewall.
Yes!
And, running between the trees!
Yes!
So, that no one from the chapel, and none of the members entering would notice me?
...
Everything had gone well.
Yes, exactly as I planned!
And, our team had won!
Yes, and I was thrilled!
...
Fortunately, that went well but did not go completely unnoticed by the deacons quorum advisor!
For brother Felix Espinoza had seen me running quickly from tree to tree!
Yes, not trying not to be discovered!
As quick as a bunny?
...
Now at the beginning of the following week.
Brother Espinoza decided to pay me a little visit to my house!
Yes, for he wanted to speak with me?
But he would not say a thing about what he had seen on that Sunday.
Nor when he asked me why I had missed my meeting.
...
What he did though was simply hand me a manual and he said...
"I would very much like it for you to teach the Priesthood class this coming Sunday."
"And, I have marked the lesson for you."
"Now don't worry Eduardo, it is not very difficult."
"So, I want you to read it and I will come by in two days to help you with the preparation for this lesson."
...
Now, after brother Espinoza left.
I thought about teaching this class.
Yes, A Great Calling and Honor.
Yes, being I was only age twelve.
...
So, I looked at the manual.
Yes, that manual that I needed to study.
That he gave me after he left.
But I thought to myself.
I didn't want this assignment to teach his class.
...
Yes, but I could never bring myself to tell him.
Or my plan again.
After all, this Sabbath Sunday?
Yes, again I planned to ditch the church and to stay with my poor father.
Yes, the same lousy excuse I've been using now for many weeks. Meaning there was another important soccer game!
...
Now brother Espinoza was a person whom young people admired.
And, he himself, had found the restored gospel.
And, that had changed his life or in other words his heart.
...
When the following Saturday came and arrived.
I thought to myself.
"Well maybe tomorrow I'll wake up sick!"
"Yes, and I will not have to go to church again?"
But in all actuality?
Now, it wasn't a stupid soccer game that worried me anymore.
Actually, it was the class I had to teach!
Yes, especially a lesson about the Sabbath Day.
...
Sunday came and of course.
I woke up healthier than ever.
I had no excuse- I had No escape.
...
Note: It was the first time I would
teach a lesson.
Yes, but brother Espinoza was there right by my side!
And, that was the day.
The day that I had had.
"A Mighty Change of Heart"
...
And, from that moment on?
I began to keep the Sabbath day Holy.
And, over time in the words of President Russell M. Nelson.
"The Sabbath day has become a delight."
"Lord I gave you everything; I have nothing more to give you."
