There was only one Prince Charming

Only One

Recount the loves released this year,
her game; sheer fear!
Overt is she -
best friend is he.

Consumed by dread, fed by defeat
amazed, discrete.
Each date, constrained
emotions drained.
********
But then there was just one; her mate
His fate came late.
Demure, indeed!
Success agreed.
