Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level
A late night ramble in grief

Not ok, not today.

by Terry Palardy

I bought a book that's titled
IT'S OK THAT YOU'RE NOT OK
I've not yet cracked the spine
I don't think it's okay
To be not okay
It stresses me and others
There is no one I dare tell
That I'm not ok
They would want to rush in
Or send others in
To make me okay
I would comply with their wishes
To hear me say that I'll be okay
When truth be told
That game's getting old
And older by the day
It is a game that I play
To let them stay
In their belief that it's ok
As long as I say
That I'm okay
Every. Single. Day

I know they mean well ...
I know they wish me well ...
But my husband died five years ago ...
And every day I wake
To that same truth.
