Celebration

Julie

by Janet Foor

Warm summer glow upon her face
with tiny flecks of finest gold.
That smile that makes my world go round
and charm that never does grow old.

There’s mischief in those blue-green eyes.
Her escapades are my delight.
Precocious one who knows her mind
and won’t give up without a fight.

She’s talented and versatile
and always willing to give more
Her softball game began at noon --
Piano recital at four.

In muddy shoes and dress of lace -
a priceless twinkle in her gaze.
My picture-perfect memory
that time and years can not erase.

My little girl is all grown up.
She now has children of her own.
They light her world as she does mine  --
All precious gifts from God….on loan.

Today, we celebrate her gifts
of rivers forged and mountains climbed.
Each challenge bought with grace and grit --
with love and valor intertwined.

Rhyming Poem contest entry

Recognized

This is a poem about my daughter, Julie. She is an amazing woman who was raised in rural Pennsylvania, player volleyball at PennState and became a Division 1 Volleyball Coach herself at 22 years old. She raised 3 amazing young men along the way. One is a Semi Pro Soccer Coach, one is a Police Officer and one is currently playing soccer on the US Deaf Olympic team in Brazil. Next week we will celebrate with her when she is awarded her Master's Degree. Proud Mama
