Something written about nothing at all

Searching for an Answer

by Tom Horonzy

Is there anything I can say
that hasn't been said?
I often find in writing verse
penning quotes of other writers,
be they poets or sonneteers.
I've written of: love and hate,
of life and death. Who hasn't?
Cats, dogs, ants and frogs,
horses, mules, and burros.
Towering clouds and seas
stretching towards heaven or
unto unfathomable depths.
Dreams of being a champion
to be knocked off my feet
in whatever sport or game,
but I've never shot anything.
I've described women who looks
fried men's brains crisp as bacon.
I'm sure there must be something
that hasn't yet been composed.
Whatever it tis fails me this hour,
causing me to surmise that I am
cruising to hell in a handbasket.
A ruinous condition for a writer.
Can't you tell by this exercise
of futilistic and ineffective dribble?
But, wait. I must bid you adieu.
I'm struck by the idea to join a circus.
Why? For I have yet to write a verse
about a sullen, broken-hearted clown.
and it might be a good place to look.
It could be the answer I'm looking for.
Don't you think? Sincerely yours.
