Tend your faith to keep it strong.
Garden of Faith
The Word of God,
A seed,
Planted in the rich soil
Of my heart.
Greed, jealousy, anger, Depression,
Wind around the growing stock
Threatening strangulation.
I slice the thorny creepers
And destroy them.
They come back,
Persistent,
Powerful,
Grounded in my world.
Distractions bombard me
Like a crow
Picking away
At my surety and confidence,
Dropping seeds of doubt
Where, once, none grew.
Genocide across the sea;
A friend's child dies;
A mass shooting in the city that never sleeps.
Why?
Why would God
Allow this to happen?
A shoot of ambivalence,
A cynical stem,
Vines of vanity
Beautiful but dangerous
Like Satan himself.
I must be ceaseless;
Pulling weeds,
Feeding the soil, with the Word,
Accepting the Living Water,
Absorbing the Light that is Jesus.
The flower of faith
Grows and flourishes.
It is healthy;
It is strong;
It has germinated
In the hearts of my children
And in the hearts of theirs.
We are a garden of faith-
And we bloom.
