Ekphrastic Octogram

A chapter in the book Interpretations For Consideration

The Last Descent

by Debra White

I had a little accident;
My slinky bust.
Its coils are really rather bent
and won't adjust.
It used to saunter down the stair,
but now it's broke, beyond repair -
I'd thought that it was more robust.
My slinky bust.

I sent it on its last descent
with forceful thrust.
I wasn't careful, down it went
then bit the dust.
A tangled mess, a sorry sight,
my nifty spring was not alright,
I'm more than just a tad nonplussed.
My slinky bust.

Over the years, my children had numerous slinkies. They are a very cool, yet flimsy toy, which - each and every one of them 'broke' within days of buying them... maybe my children were just heavy handed!

Ekphrastic poetry - A description of a visual work of art, either real or imagined.

Thank you to Kimbob (FatherFlaps), for introducing me to the Octogram form -
The Octogram was invented by Fanstory member, Sally Yocom.
2 stanzas of 8 lines. The syllable counts should be: 8-4-8-4-888-4; 8-4-8-4-888-4
Each line must be written in iambic meter. The rhyme scheme for the first stanza:
aBabccbB and for the second stanza: ababddbB, where the capital B's denote repeated lines, word for word.
