Why is it so?

by royowen

Why do we think the way we do,
when little knowledge we accrue?
We sit in judgement of times past,
when diff'rent concepts had been cast.

Why do we think that our way's best,
when wisdom now can't face the test?
How arrogant are we who stand,
in judging ways of other lands?

We may be wrong enduring rules,
conceptions birthed in verbal stools.
When just one rule has covered all,
we write sub-clauses on fate's wall.

'Love your neighbour' once was used,
to that specifics have been fused.
Are we so thick that we don't know,
that loving ALL will make life flow?

I leave all judgement in God's hands,
not in some despot's harsh demands.
We all have limits to our minds,
but grace sets free and never binds.

For in our land injustice reigns,
for without mercy judgement stains.
I've tried to change my cruel heart,
but with love's rule I'll make a start.

I grew up in a time when women had less wages than men, no permanency in employment, could not get a loan for a house
Aboriginals were not counted in the census back then, so consequently were not considered as a people, so they could not vote until 1967, and I am sure other injustices existed, but it seems typical of man. Some of these things have rightfully been corrected, This was the situation in Australia years ago, but maybe you never had these prejudicial problems. I believe loving thy neighbour still tends to be ignored, no amount of legislation will change mens hearts.
There is only one way I know, the 1st Commandment. If one loves someone they will try to please them, would they not?
Deutoronomy 6: 5-9
Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts.Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.
