Memories

by Mickamus J

Our lives are short,
History says it was made short.
As time cleared,
Where people peered
Through the mental anguish.

As time passed,
We forget ourselves,
Knowing well,
Our lives' purpose,
Lost in season
For those without reason.

We wake today,
To a life of leisure and casual entertainment
Forgotten people,
Misled conversations.
Where forget ourselves,
Through our agendas and pursuits.

Through the centuries,
Not fully captured
The madness of conflict,
The fatigue of those who fight,
Never to be the same.

After such conflict,
Eyes and souls open,
There is understanding.
Knowledge as heads bowed
Knowing the sadness of life,
And the depravity of Man.

We always think
Such darkness will not find me here.
No, no such nonsense.
Not in this era,
Where people live, people choose life.
All for the best!

IF only that were true,
That we seek peace.
No, it is not a fallacy,
It is somewhat distinct.

Where we sit and surf,
Our ideas are not in tune,
With the focus of the current world,
With fear inbred,
We forget our history.

When death and destruction,
A merry pair for hothead rulers,
Without regard for life,
The turmoil created,
For fame and power,
In the name of religion and peace.
Events of the past.

Have we really forgotten our way?
Have we really sought our souls' death,
Forgetting the refrain from our angels,
That we lose our faith
And put it in destruction instead?
To begin with despair?

It was a photograph,
A memory of moments past,
Wearing a uniform,
Brandishing an automatic.

Smiling yet reserved,
Hoping no conflict arises,
As such poses exist.
Or else, photographs remain,
As people disappear,
Never to exist,
Nor to be remembered.

Let's not be hasty,
Let the memories be real,
Nothing lost but everything gained.
For a future for those who remain.
Without death or destruction
Or callous wrath.
