The Drowning Man

Acrostic Poetry Contest Contest Winner 
The drowning man no longer fights
Haunted by depth of childhood nights
Enslaved by darkness, light recedes

Devouring years without reprieve
Running through life, never a win
Obstacles bare another's sin
Withdrawn from love, a father's gift
Never at peace, always adrift
Immobilized when children scream
Nightmares haunt his every dream
Gelded of future, all hope defiled

Manuscript reads he was beguiled
Accepting fate of truth untold
Never he'll swim in oceans old
