A chapter in the book Reflections

Two Children From Saigon

by Jane Jane King

I romped upon JoJo, my water buffalo, playfully twirling my yo-yo
She giggled in the sun, enjoying the fun and a ripe yellow mango
We were after all just two children from Saigon
And so we laughed and played as though tomorrow would not come

She was untouched when we married two children from Saigon
Her now-so-shy glances were touching...The child's laughter was gone
She longingly said I'll never wish for the past...
And wistfully longed for so long

But then she stopped glancing shyly
And began to gaze with warm desire
The moon watched her sleep The sun smiled on her awakening charms
And I held the world in my arms

She mourned when I left her
I had to leave
She was too young to understand why
Every time I think of her I cry

Two children from Saigon with broken hearts that would not mend
Because I also loved a secret friend
But now I don't understand why
The mistake I made was big...So big I wish to die
